DEADLINE: Percy Daggs IV (The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey) and Anthony B. Jenkins (Florida Man) have been set to join Halle Berry in Lionsgate‘s thriller Never Let Go (fka Mother Land) from 21 Laps.

The film currently in production follows a mother (Berry) and her fraternal twin sons (Daggs and Jenkins) who have been tormented by an evil spirit for years and are convinced to never let go of their family’s protective bond. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, their connection is severed, triggering a terrifying fight for survival.

Alexandre Aja (Crawl) is directing from a script by Kevin Coughlin & Ryan Grassby. The film will be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine, who have delivered such hits as Arrival, Free Guy and Stranger Things, as well as Aja. Exec producers are Berry, Holly Jeter and 21 Laps’ Emily Morris. Chelsea Kujawa and Scott O’Brien are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. And deals were negotiated for the studio by Robert Melnik.

DEADLINE: Following an intense multi-studio bidding war that went into the weekend, Warner Bros has landed the package Maude v Maude, with Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry attached to star.

Roseanne Liang is on board to direct from Scott Mosier’s script. Berry and Jolie will produce along with Berry’s producing partner Holly Jeter via their banner HalleHolly, along with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth who will produce through RK Films. Mosier and Liang will exec produce.

Exact details are being kept under wraps, but and insider describes the pic as a “Bond vs. Bourne” type of global action thriller with locations to be announced.

As Halle Berry continues to film 'Our Man From Jersey' with Mark Wahlberg, the actress already has lined up one of her next gigs by signing on to star and executive produce the supernatural thriller 'Mother Land', for Lionsgate with Alexandre Aja on board to direct.

Crawl, The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D filmmaker Alexandre Aja is aboard to direct the feature, which will chart the story of a mother and her twin sons who have been tormented by an evil spirit for years. When one of the boys questions whether the evil is real, the family’s sacred bond is broken, and it becomes a fight for survival.

The film is expected to go into production next year, and international sales will launch this month in Cannes.

Producing for 21 Laps are Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine. Genre specialist Aja will also produce. Berry and Holly Jeter will be executive producers. The script was written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby.

Berry recently starred on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and also made her directorial debut on boxing pic Bruised. She is in post-production on Netflix movie The Mothership.

Apple Original Films has announced “Number One on the Call Sheet,” two companion documentary features that will celebrate Black achievement in Hollywood and explore what it takes for Black actors to be successful in the film industry.

Produced by Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart, Datari Turner and Dan Cogan, “Number One on the Call Sheet” is executive produced by Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Reginald Hudlin and Bryan Smiley.

The documentary is separated into two parts, with the first film focusing on the groundbreaking work of Black women actors. “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Women in Hollywood” is executive produced by Bassett and Berry and directed by Shola Lynch.

The second film celebrates Black achievement in film and highlights the stories and experiences of Black male actors of the past who paved the way for today’s stars. “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood” is directed by Reginald Hudlin.

Apple has yet to announce a release date for the project.

After landing rights to her directorial debut, Netflix is looking to get back into business with Halle Berry. The streamer has set her to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in the thriller Our Man From Jersey. David Guggenheim penned the script, with Wahlberg and his partner Stephen Levinson producing.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as a blue-collar James Bond. Insiders say the plan is to shoot the film early next year in London.

The Oscar-winning actress added the title of director to her extensive filmography when her directorial debut Bruised premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, earning rave reviews for how impressive her work was for a first-time director and for her performance that impressed the festival circuit, especially Netflix. The streamer would end up paying eight figures for the rights, one of the largest at the 2020 festival.

Berry will also executive produced the film with production slated to start in the spring.

DEADLINE: Oscar-winner Halle Berry has signed on to star in and executive produce The Mothership, from Netflix and MRC Film. Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies screenwriter Matthew Charman wrote the script and will be directing the film for his feature directorial debut.

The sci-fi adventure follows Sara Morse (Berry) one year since her husband mysteriously vanished from their rural farm. When she discovers a strange, extraterrestrial object underneath their home, Sara and her kids embark on a race to find their husband, father, and most importantly – the truth.

Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are producing the film under their Automatik banner. Danny Stillman will serve as an exec producer alongside Berry.

Netflix recently picked up the rights to Berry’s directorial debut film, Bruised, a mixed martial arts drama that premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Halle Berry Backs Out Of Transgender Role Amid Backlash

Halle Berry has closed the door on the opportunity to play a transgender character after mounting backlash from the community, and it should be noted that the Academy Award winner was never officially cast in the film. Read more of the story and her response below:

Variety: Halle Berry has pulled out of a role in an upcoming film in which she’d play a transgender character after facing backlash online.

In an Instagram live interview on Friday, the actor said she had been preparing for the role, but had not been officially cast.

“[It’s] a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing,” Berry had said. She added that she wanted to take a “deep dive” into “that world,” likely referring to the trans community.

However, Berry faced backlash online after misgendering the character multiple times during the interview. “Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project,” she said.

On Monday night, she issued an apology and pulled out of the role, saying “the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories.”

“Over the weekend I had the opportunity to discuss my consideration of an upcoming role as a transgender man, and I’d like to apologize for those remarks. As a cisgender woman, I now understand that I should not have considered this role, and that the transgender community should undeniably have the opportunity to tell their own stories,” she wrote. “I am grateful for the guidance and critical conversation over the past few days and will continue to listen, educate and learn from this mistake. I vow to be an ally in using my voice to promote better representation on-screen, both in front of and behind the camera.”

Berry’s comments caught the attention of the Twitter account for the Netflix documentary “Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen,” which was released last month and examines Hollywood’s portrayal of transgender people and their stories.

The doc’s account asked that Berry watch the film to “understand how cis actors like yourself acting in trans roles has major cultural consequences offscreen.”

After Berry’s apology, the account thanked her for “listening and learning.” The LGBTQ rights organization GLAAD also responded, saying “We are pleased that Halle Berry listened to the concerns of transgender people and learned from them. Other powerful people should do the same. A good place to start is by watching ‘Disclosure’ to learn about trans representation in media.”

In recent years, cisgender actors have faced controversy over playing transgender characters. In 2018, Scarlett Johansson was cast as a transgender character in the film “Rub and Tug,” sparking backlash from trans rights groups and activists. A week later, she exited the role.

Halle Berry Heads To Space In Roland Emmerich’s 'Moonfall'

Halle Berry has signed on as the female lead in 'Moonfall', the Roland Emmerich-helmed sci-fi epic, which already counts Josh Gad (pictured with Berry above) amongst its cast and has been acquired by Lionsgate for release in 2021. Read more details below:

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER: Halle Berry will star in Moonfall, the latest sci-fi disaster picture from Roland Emmerich.

Berry joins Josh Gad, who was first to sign up, in the thriller that Emmerich, who made destroying Earthly landmarks his signature with movies such as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, co-wrote and is directing.

Production is eying a fall start with Lionsgate, which released Emmerich’s last movie, World War II pic Midway, distributing in North America.

Penned by Emmerich and 2012 co-writer Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, Moonfall sees its plot go into action when the moon is knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and is on a collision course with Earth. Life as we know it hangs in the balance and with just weeks to go before impact, a ragtag team is sent on a seemingly impossible mission to land on the lunar surface and save humanity.

Gad is playing an eccentric genius that deduces that the moon has fallen out of its orbit. Berry will play an astronaut-turned-NASA administrator whose previous mission holds a clue to the catastrophe.

Emmerich is producing Moonfall under his Centropolis banner with Kloser producing through his company, Street Entertainment.

As he did with Midway, Emmerich and Centropolis are independently producing and financing Moonfall, overseeing all aspects of production, financing and delivery. They are also collaborating with Lionsgate and AGC International, which sold out the film worldwide in Cannes 2019, as well as with international distributors on marketing and distribution.

Lionsgate is eyeing a North American release in 2021.

Getting Berry for an outing is a big deal as the Oscar-winning actress has made few big-screen appearances in recent years. Her last outing saw her team up with Keanu Reeves to shoot, stab and maim in 2019’s John Wick 3: Parabellum. Before that, she appeared in 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle. She also recently wrapped her directorial debut, Bruised, in which she also stars as a female MMA fighter. Berry is repped by WME and Management 360.

Report: Halle Berry To Star In 'John Wick' Spinoff About Sofia

Since she commanded the screen in 'John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum', fans have been calling for a spinoff starring Halle Berry's Sofia and it looks like we may be finally getting our wish. According to We Got This Covered, who has correctly predicted a lot of castings, Lionsgate has put a project revolving about the character in development. Details below:

John Wick Spinoff Starring Halle Berry’s Sofia Reportedly In The Works

Halle Berry’s Sofia made quite the impression in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Though she only appeared in three extended scenes, those may have been the best bits of the film.

For those who haven’t seen it, Berry’s Sofia is a veteran assassin and manager at the Moroccan Continental who owes Keanu Reeves’ John a favor. The pair bond over their love of dogs as they head out with Sofia’s two Belgian Malinois hounds in tow to meet Jerome Flynn’s villainous Barracuda. Barracuda then does the one thing you definitely don’t want to do in a John Wick movie: he shoots one of the dogs.

Fortunately, this dog’s wearing a bulletproof vest. Even so, it leads into a brutal and amazing extended action sequence where the two assassins (and the dogs) kick some serious ass. And now it seems that we might get to see more of Sofia and her faithful hounds, as our sources – the same ones who told us a Green Lantern show is coming to HBO Max and John Cena is playing Vin Diesel’s brother in Fast & Furious 9, both of which turned out to be true – say that a John Wick spinoff is in development and will focus on Sofia on the hunt for her daughter.

This project may be the second female-led John Wick spinoff we get, too, as Ballerina is also in production. That pic will star Unity Phelan’s ballerina assassin character from the third film as she gets revenge on the men who killed her family. John Wick: Chapter 3 screenwriter Shay Hatten is on script duties with veteran action director Len Wiseman helming the project.

But Phelan will have to put some serious effort in to match Berry’s dedication. During the making of John Wick 3, director Chad Stahelski revealed to EW how much work the actress put into training to play Sofia, as he explained:

“She would have to do three hours of martial arts, two hours of guns, and then, because the dogs are so sensitive, Halle had to become a trainer for the animals. So, she [spent] another three, four hours a day just hanging out with the dogs, and giving them commands, and telling them what to do. That is a massive time commitment for an actress of her caliber that could be making millions of dollars elsewhere on other jobs. She just wanted to blow up everything to make a statement, saying, ‘Look at me, look what I can do,’ you know, pretty much, ‘Fuck y’all.’ [Laughs]”

Hell yeah. Fingers crossed this can match the action intensity of the main franchise. There’s no word yet on when it’s going to be out, but John Wick 4 is currently scheduled for release on May 21st, 2021.

Halle Berry To Make Directorial Debut In MMA Drama 'Bruised'

DEADLINE: Oscar winner Halle Berry is making her directorial debut with Bruised, a mixed martial arts action drama in which she’s also starring. Berry, currently in production on John Wick 3 starring opposite Keanu Reeves, will reteam with John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, who is also producing Bruised along with Entertainment 360 and Linda Gottlieb.

Written by Michelle Rosenfarb, the plot follows Jackie “Justice,” a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she’s ever been good at – fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world, and ultimately fight to become the mother this kid deserves.

Berry will work with the team that does the fight choreography for the John Wick franchise.

Production starts next year in March, with Riverstone financing and Erica Lee serving as exec producer. The film is developed with the EIS company.

Berry made history as the first (and currently the only) black woman to win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in 2001’s Monster’s Ball. It was recently announced that she’ll star in Sony’s remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge.

During her weekly Fitness Friday session, Halle Berry took questions along her trainer and instead of fitness, one question was about her upcoming projects.

The actress, who is still hard at work on 'John Wick 3', revealed that she will star in 'Bruised', a mixed marital arts action-drama that Blake Lively was previously attached to.

Berry will play Jackie, a single mother working two jobs and a disgraced MMA fighter who has been up against the ropes her entire life. When the authorities threaten to take her young son away from her, she must get back in the cage for one last chance to fight for redemption and give her son the life she always wanted.

Other projects in the works include the remake of 'Jagged Edge', a television series and some that she didn't discuss like the third 'Kingsman' film and its spinoff 'Statesmen'.

The Hollywood Reporter: Halle Berry has signed on to star opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 3, the latest installment in Liongate’s action series.

Director Chad Stahelski, who oversaw the mayhem in the first two movies, will be back behind the camera for Chapter 3.

The story picks up after the events of Chapter 2, which finds Wick, a former assassin who tried and failed to live the quiet life, with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is "excommunicado," but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.

Berry’s character details are being kept secret, but sources say she will not be the film’s villain.

Derek Kolstad, the writing team of Chris Collins and Marc Abrams, and Shay Hatten penned the script. Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee are producing in association with 87Eleven Productions.

Berry, repped by WME and Management 360, last co-starred in the comic-book action pic Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

The actress on Monday shared an Instagram post confirming her stay in the Continental Hotel, the film's hotel for assassins. "It's a date. 5.17.19," Berry said in reference to John Wick: Chapter 3's release date.

Halle Berry Circling 'Jagged Edge' Remake At Sony Pictures

'Jagged Edge', the 1985 thriller starring Glenn Close and Jeff Bridges, is getting a remake courtesy of Sony Pictures and according to Deadline, Halle Berry is at the center of the new film, which is a priority and is currently looking for a writer. Read the report below:

Sony Pictures is in the early stages of mounting a remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge, as a star vehicle for Halle Berry. The effort is being led by Steven Bersch, the Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group head who took over the genre arm Screen Gems. This one could very well be a standard Sony release, but they’re still working that out. The project is a priority and the studio has begun the search for the right writer to draft the new version.

Matti Leshem and Doug Belgrad will produce it.

Scott Strauss will oversee for the studio.

Directed by Richard Marquand from a Joe Eszterhas script, the original starred Glenn Close, Jeff Bridges and Robert Loggia, latter of whom got an Oscar nomination. In the original, a San Francisco heiress is brutally murdered in her remote beach house. Her dashing newspaper publisher husband Jack is accused of committing the gruesome crime. He hires lawyer Teddy Barnes to defend him, and their chemistry spills into an affair. Even though the lawyer is falling in love, can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t quite right with the case, with the killer sending anonymous notes pecked out on an old typewriter. Is Jack the key to a happy future for the lawyer if she can get him acquitted in a courtroom, or is he a sociopath? The original was released when sexually charged whodunits were the rage. With TV minting money relaunching classic series like Roseanne, refashioning 80s concepts for price-minded updates seems a clever idea.

Weimaraner Republic Pictures’ Leshem has had success in female-driven thrillers, and Belgrad as an exec supervised the sleeper shark hit The Shallows, which made for an easy team up on this.

Berry was last seen in Kingsman: Golden Circle and Kidnap, and starred in the X-Men franchise and won her Oscar for Monster’s Ball. She’s repped by Mamagement 360 and WME.

Halle Berry Teams With Daniel Craig For L.A. Riots Drama 'Kings'

Halle Berry is on a roll... After booking the 'Kingsman' sequel and 'Silence' opposite Michael Douglas, the Academy Award winner has signed on for the English-language debut from 'Mustang' director Deniz Gamze Erguven. Read details via Deadline beneath:

Daniel Craig is in talks to star opposite Halle Berry in Mustang director Deniz Gamze Erguven’s anticipated English-language debut pic Kings. The project is set against a backdrop of rising tensions in Los Angeles during the Rodney King trial in 1992. Craig will play Ollie, a loner who lives in South Central — one of its only white residents — who befriends Berry’s character, a tough, protective mother who looks after a group of kids. When the riots explode in the city, Craig’s character helps Berry, who is secretly in love with him, try and track down the kids from the worst of the violence. Kings will have the same mix of lightness and tough emotion that made Mustang such a standout.

Vincent Maraval’s Insiders is putting the film together and selling it with CAA handling domestic. Charles Gillibert, who produced Mustang, is lead producing.

The riots spread across L.A. and lasted six days, leading to 55 deaths in the wake of the acquittal of the policemen who beat King. The footage of that beating was infamously captured on home video and would become a symbol of police brutality.

This has been Erguven’s dream project ever since graduating from the prestigious French Fémis film school. She first presented it to the Cannes L’Atélier co-production market in 2011 before deciding to make Mustang her directorial debut. That pic, set in a remote Turkish village and depicting the life of five young orphaned sisters and their challenges growing up as girls in a conservative society, has wowed critics and viewers. It was Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Language film and was a box office smash in France, earning almost half a million admissions in the country alone.

While Craig’s association with James Bond appears to be coming to an end, the actor is gearing up his non-007 projects. Deadline broke the news that he was in talks to join Steven Soderbergh’s heist film Logan Lucky opposite Channing Tatum, Riley Keogh and Adam Driver. The actor has also signed to star in the 20-episode Showtime series Purity for producer Scott Rudin and writer-director Todd Field. The series based on the novel by Jonathan Franzen is about young female activist named Purity (or Pip) who begins a worldwide search for her Dad.

Halle Berry To Star With Michael Douglas In 'Silence'

Lotus Entertainment has come aboard to sell international rights at the Cannes film market to Adrian Lyne’s Silence. This is separate from the Lyne and Nicole Kidman project Silent Wife the pair are working on that was introduced at the last American Film Market. For this new pic, Fatal Attraction star Michael Douglas and Halle Berry have come aboard to star in a package that has come together via CAA, which also arranged financing and is repping domestic distribution rights on the Croisette.

The story set in Chicago during a snow-covered Christmas in the 1960s, when for John Carpenter, the holiday spirit is broken by violence throughout the city, and an unlikely stranger named Silence saves his life during a deadly riot. It leaves you questioning how far you would go to protect the ones you love.

Will Packer is producing Silence via his Will Packer Productions banner with Will Packer Productions head of motion pictures James Lopez, along with Lyne. Jim Seibel, Bill Johnson, Ara Keshishian and Angus Sutherland of Lotus are serving as executive producers.

Halle Berry Signs Two-Picture Deal For 'Kingsman' Sequels

Halle Berry signed a two-picture deal over our hiatus to star in the upcoming 'Kingsman' sequel, 'Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle', where she is slated to play Ginger , the head of the CIA. Berry most recently starred in the Luis Prieto-directed thriller Kidnap, which is scheduled for May release by Relativity.

Vaughn and Jane Goldman wrote the script for the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, and reports have Julianne Moore also in the film. Kingsman 2 is set for release on June 16, 2017. Berry is repped by CAA and Management 360.
